Mickey Stankovic

Mickey Stankovic was born in Yugoslavia and discovered his talent for painting while in high school. Much of his life after this was an avoidance of that talent. He has worked most of his life as a cabinet maker and a house painter. In 1983 after a trip to Yugoslavia he began to paint seriously. During that visit he learned from the archbishop of the Orthodox Church there was a need for painted icons, or holy pictures, as each home would celebrate their own saint. He set about to paint his own series of icons and it is from this collection that this show is drawn. The paintings, done in acrylics and oils, also represent historical scenes in Yugoslavian history.
