From Where We Sit

April 30 – May 11, 1985
Exhibition

About the Program

"Chairs are ordinary objects that sit in our kitchens and living rooms and are part of our daily lives. Silent in our conversations and participants in our moments of relaxation, they have the power to take on the qualities of the people whose lives they inhabit. The chairs in this show reflect the personal concerns and embody the spirit and energy of the women for whom they were made. They are powerful women whose strength is represented in the chairs by images from the tarot and ancient Goddess religions. By bringing the images from our past into the realm of the everyday, I believe that we will be better able to deal with our personal, social, and political realities." From Where We Sit was Anne Beesack's first solo show in Vancouver.
